It is an increase in normal weight of the body due to accumulation of fats in the body. Obesity is also known as gaining body weight.  Obesity may cause many health problems that have a long lasting effect.  It is caused due to intake of a lot of carbohydrates that cause the increase in body fat. The various studies also show that the person with minimum physical health who undergoes less physical movement of the body is more prone to obesity.

Obesity has become a leading cause of death all over the world. It is more common in adults and children.
 
 Causes of obesity:

  • Lack of yoga training and physical exercise – Due to lack of physical exercise, a person can develop many health problems. Obesity is one of them. In this, a person eats a lot without exercise which leads to weight-gain.
  • Genetic problems – This is also a reason for obesity.
  • Related to depression or stress – Obesity and depression are co-related to each other. When a person feels anxiety and stress, they usually prefer to eat more and more unhealthy food to relieve their pain, which may be one of the reasons for obesity.
  • Due to medications – There are many medicines which cause weight gain in many people.
  • Eating disorders – eating disorder is an illness where a person overindulges on food and has a regular episode of over-eating, where this habit becomes out of control.
  • Lack of sleep – Due to lack of sleep, a person may have chances to develop obesity.
  • Environmental causes – Nowadays due to increase in environmental pollution or changing in our lifestyle may also lead to obesity. The pollutants in the atmosphere alter the normal functioning of the body.

What are the health problems related to Obesity?

Obesity may give rise to various other health related problems.

  • Due to accumulation of fat, it may increase the risk of heart disease.
  • High cholesterol, Hypertension.
  • High Blood pressure.
  • Due to regular intake of sugar or other carbohydrates, a can be affected by Diabetes.
  • Stroke.
  • Breathlessness or asthma.
  • Mental disturbance regarding being overweight.
  • The life expectancy of a person also declines due to obesity.

What are the measures to control obesity?

Obesity can be managed by one’s own self. A person has to change its lifestyle to tackle this problem, here are the few measures to prevent obesity-

  • Changes in diet plan. The problem of obesity can be controlled by having a diet plan.
  • The intake of food with high carbohydrates and fats, food with high sugar content and processed food should be reduced at a great extent or to fully avoid them.
  • Fruits, vegetables and other food items with high fiber and minerals are very helpful to control weight gain.
  • Yoga training and physical exercise or workout plays a very important role to eradicate obesity.
  • There are many medications available to reduce appetite and to dissolve body fat. A person suffering from obesity can take those medicines after consultation with a doctor.
  • To relieve stress and anxiety, medication can also prove helpful.
